IRCC (Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada) has introduced the projected times which will replace the historical processing time for all the applications that are received on and after 31st July, 2018. With a press release on 9th August 2018, IRCC (Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada) announced the new projected processing times system and it will apply a number of permanent residence applications.

Some of the types on which the new projected processing times system will apply are:
- Parents and Grandparents sponsorship
- Provincial Nominee (Non – Express Entry)
- Quebec Skilled workers
- Start-up visa
- Humanitarian and Compassionate cases
With the help of the new processing system introduced the candidates will be able to move to Canada with an accurate immigration processing time as it will help the candidates prepare better for immigration by displaying how long the applications processing is expected to take under normal conditions, calculating from the day they applied. Further, in order to make the immigration proceedings smoother, IRCC (Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada) will update the processing times on a monthly basis.
Some of the processing time of the candidates are listed below:
- Parents and Grandparents sponsorship – 20 to 24 months
- Provincial Nominee (Non – Express Entry) – 15 to 19 months
- Quebec Skilled workers – 15 to 17 months
- Start-up visa – 12 to 16 months
- Humanitarian and Compassionate cases – 22 to 36 months
Prior to this, the processing time for all Canadian application process was based on historical data. earlier the processing time was based on how long the IRCC (Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada) took to process 80 % of applications in the last year but this new Processing time method will be based on the number of applications waiting to be processed. The new processing time will start when the IRCC (Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada) will receive the application and ends when the final decision is taken. In case of mail submission, the processing time starts when the application reaches the IRCC (Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada) office. In case of online or in-person submission, the processing time starts when an immigration officer receives the submitted form.
