Canadian English Language Proficiency Index program(CELPIP)

Canadian English Language Proficiency Index program

The Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program(CELPIP) is a test of the proficiency of the English Language and it is accepted by government positions, professional organization and many university and colleges as a proof that the aspiring immigrant is proficient in the English Language. It is authentic and reliability of the candidate’s ability of the English language and that the candidate will be able to interact and work in the language comfortably and undertake the day to day task as well.

Just like IELTS, there are two types of CELPIP – The General Test and the General LS Test. The General Test of CELPIP tests the listening, reading, writing and speaking skills of the candidate and is accepted by the IRCC (Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada). There are many organizations that accept these days like Real Estate Council of British Columbia (RECBC) and Immigration Consultant of Canada Regulatory. council (ICCRC). The other test, The General LS Test assesses the listening and speaking proficiency.

What is the test format for CELPIP (Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program)?

Both times of test have different components. The first test, a general test has four components – Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking and the second test, General LS Test has two components – Listening and Speaking. Just like both, the tests have different formats, they have different times as well, the CELPIP General Test is for three hours and CELPIP General LS test is for one hour and 10 minutes.

The CELPIP test is completely a computer delivered test. The test takers can complete all the components of the test in one sitting and there are no additional interviews, appointment or tests that are required from the candidates. For listening and Speaking section the candidates are allotted a microphone and handset.

The results for the test are out within 8 days of undertaking the test and the higher the candidate aims in the test the better it is for selection. As per the Canadian Language benchmark, CLB 9 is a very desirable score and the minimum allowable score is 7. The score of 0,1 and 2 denoted the minimal proficiency in the English language but a score of 12 denoted an advanced proficiency in the English language. The scoring of the test results is done by the computer thereby there is no undeserved test score of the candidate. The validity of the test is for two years from the date of undertaking the test.
